I really want my kids to appreciate good art. The mess they make when doing art projects doesn’t always make me jump with joy…but sometimes a mom has to do what a mom has to do!
I like Kandinsky’s art…it’s fun to look at..and fun to say! These projects were easy for me to put together and fun for the kids to do.
These are items you may need to purchase for the Kandinsky projects.
These items you may already have
Project 1: Kandinsky Abstract Art
Here is what you will need:
- construction paper
- items to trace…both circles and straight lines (lids, plates, cups, rulers)
- pencil to trace shapes
- oil pastels
- watercolors
The kids traced different items on their construction paper with pencil. It was fun to use both circles and straight lines for contrast. Then they traced their lines with oil pastels. And finally they used watercolors to paint their paper. Plus…some of them added paint spatters over the top for added effect!
Project 2: Oil Pastel Circles
Want to create this masterpiece? My 11 year old watched this youtube video and here is what she came up with!
Here is what you will need:
- oil pastel paper (I got oil pastel paper for this one…but if you don’t have any try the regular construction paper…we are going for fun not perfection!)
- oil pastels
- pencil and ruler to make squares on the paper
Project 3: Kandinsky Trees
I had my boys do a different project while my daughter was doing Project 2 (I was going for something a bit easier for them.) If you do a search on Pinterest for Kandinksky circle trees, you will find many examples…here is my 9 year old’s version.
Here is what you will need:
- construction paper of various colors
- scissors
- glue sticks
Let them cut circles of various sizes and colors. Stack the circles to create the “leaves”. Cut the trunk and branches from brown construction paper and glue them on a background color. This project proves that doing art with kids doesn’t have to be difficult or complicated!
Get out your art supplies and do something fun with your kids (while teaching them to appreciate great art!)
Make it Happen!
- Get those supplies, tell your kids it’s time for art, and just do it!
- Don’t worry about the mess…live in the moment!
