My kids love it when I tell them we are doing an art project!  What is it about kids and paint?  I don’t know but it makes them giddy!

These projects were super easy and fun to do.  If you have never tried painting with pencil erasers or Q-tips…you should try these fun ideas.

Here are the supplies you will need for these 2 easy projects

and don’t forget the newspaper to cover your table with!

Project 1: Pointillism with Pencils

We started by talking about Georges Seurat (one of his famous paintings inspired a play called Sunday in the Park with George)  Then we got the paint out and got to the fun stuff!

Here’s what we needed (see links above):

  • black and white picture of a tree
  • bunch of pencils with new erasers
  • tempera paints
  • paper plates

I told the kids they needed to use the pencil erasers to make dots to cover the area they were painting.  They had a lot of fun with this project.

Project 2: Pointillism with Q-tips

This time we painted with Q-tips!  It was fun using something different than paint brushes.

I first asked the kids to think about what colors a tree had in the fall compared to spring or summer time.  I asked them to choose a season to pain (they all chose fall!)…so we used red, orange and yellow for the tree tops.

After letting the boys go (they just wanted to go play!)…I asked the girls to paint a butterfly in the pointillism style.

These are fun projects to do with your kids (and they didn’t make a huge mess!)
