Hey there, fabulous midlife ladies! Life’s an adventure, and we want to enjoy every moment of it. The key to a healthy midlife journey can start with some simple steps.
Let’s dive into some simple yet powerful habits that can make a world of difference: moving more, drinking more water, eating more fruits and veggies, getting enough protein, and cutting down on white flour and sugar.
1. Move More
Remember when you were a carefree kid, running around, climbing trees, and just having a blast? Well, guess what? You can still do that, maybe not the tree-climbing part, but certainly the moving part.
Whether it’s taking a brisk walk in the morning, dancing to your favorite tunes, or trying out a new yoga class, moving more is like a magic elixir for your body and mind. Regular physical activity can boost your mood, improve your energy levels, and keep those joints happy. So, put on those comfy sneakers, find an activity you love, and make it a part of your daily routine.
2. Drink More Water
H2O is your BFF. Seriously! Staying hydrated is one of the simplest and most effective ways to feel better every day. It helps your skin glow, aids digestion, and even supports your brain function. Plus, it’s an excellent way to combat those sneaky midlife wrinkles!
Carry a reusable water bottle with you, and sip throughout the day. Herbal teas and infused water with lemon or cucumber are fantastic options if plain water isn’t your jam. Just remember, when your body says it’s thirsty, don’t ignore it – it’s trying to tell you something important!
3. Eat More Fruits and Veggies
Your grandma was right when she told you to eat your fruits and veggies. These colorful powerhouses are packed with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that keep you feeling and looking fantastic.
Think of fruits and veggies as your body’s best friends, and invite them to every meal. Make a fruit smoothie for breakfast, toss a salad with a rainbow of veggies for lunch, and snack on carrot sticks or apple slices in the afternoon. The more you eat, the better you’ll feel.
4. Eat Enough Protein
Let’s talk protein – it’s like the superhero of nutrients for us at this stage. Getting enough of it is a game-changer because it helps keep our bodies strong and resilient. You see, protein is like the body’s repair crew. It helps maintain our muscle mass, which tends to sneak away as we age. Plus, it’s a secret weapon against those midlife weight woes by keeping us feeling full and satisfied. And let’s not forget the bonus – protein helps us rock that healthy, glowing skin and luscious hair.
So, whether it’s from lean meats, plant-based sources, or even a tasty protein shake, don’t skimp on the protein. It’s your sidekick to feeling awesome in your midlife journey!
5. Eat Less White Flour and Sugar
We get it, a freshly baked pastry or a scoop of ice cream can be pure bliss. But overloading your diet with white flour and sugar can lead to energy crashes, weight gain, and other health issues.
Consider making some simple swaps. Choose whole grains like brown rice, quinoa, or whole wheat bread over white flour products. When that sweet tooth strikes, reach for a piece of dark chocolate or a homemade fruit salad instead of processed sugary snacks. Small changes can make a big difference in how you feel day-to-day.
My Plan for a Healthy Midlife!
- Move more
- Drink more (water)
- Eat more (fruits and veggies)
- Eat enough protein
- Eat less (white stuff…flour and sugar)
Make Being Healthy in Midlife a Reality!
- Move more. It is nearly impossible for me to commit to exercising more than 30 minutes a day. Many women have too many people and activities demanding our attention. These are the things that work for me:
- workout videos I can do at home
- workout routines on Youtube
- heading outside for a walk/jog using the interval timer on my phone
- Drink more water. Staying hydrated can help prevent cravings and overeating. I don’t know why drinking enough water is so hard for me…but it is. I use a pint canning jar for my water glass…so I need to drink 4 a day to get 8 cups. I try to drink 2 before lunch.
- Eat more fruits and veggies. By eating one serving with each meal and 2 snacks…I’ve got it! Planning my meals and snacks the day before really helps me with this! I recently found and have loved using emeals to create my meal plans and shopping lists….it saves me so much time! My afternoon snack helps get me through the day…one of my favorite places for healthier snacks is through Thrive Market.
- Eat more protein. I have found that I need to include protein powder in order to get enough protein. One of my favorite brands of protein powder is Orgain.
- Eat less white stuff. We have cut back a lot on sugar in the past couple of years…I’m always looking for yummy treats to make that don’t use white sugar so I don’t feel deprived!
And there it is…5 simple steps to become a healthy mom…at least it looks simple when I write it down!

Stopping by from Tuesday Talk! XOXO Those are definitely good habits. I just have such a hard time saying no to sugar!
I don’t say no everytime!
Great ideas! It’s so important to stay healthy as busy moms so we can be there for our families! Thank you so much for sharing with us at Hearth and Soul.
Hey there! Stopping by from Heath and Soul Link Party. Thank you for sharing these simple, important tips to stay healthy. Sometimes they are easier to do than others – the whole “limit white food” is especially hard for me – hellooooo, pasta!!! (My kids won’t eat the whole wheat stuff, so any tips there would be greatly appreciated!) I’d love to add one more tip to help busy moms stay healthy: take time for yourself. Your mental health is every bit as important as your physical health, and I’ve known too many moms who lose themselves to the busy-ness of motherhood. Do some things YOU enjoy. You’re just as important as everyone else in your life!
My kids don’t like the whole wheat pasta either! I have found that I like some brands better than others…and I have a big enough family that I can make 2 packages…1 regular and 1 whole wheat. I will mix them together if they are in a casserole type dish, then they don’t seem to notice.
I love your important reminder on taking time for ourselves…that is definitely something I am working on!
Love your encouragement to eat less white. So important! Best eating advice I ever received: eat the rainbow at every meal. Those colors are nutrients!

It is hard! Lately I’ve been just telling myself to exercise for 20 minutes…I can do 20 minutes, right?!
