Do you ever feel overwhelmed, anxious, or exhausted?  Making sure you take some time each day to take care of YOU just might be the answer to help you develop a positive attitude as a busy mother!

When my kiddos were little…I had some quiet time during nap time…or when they went to bed (if you have young children who can’t tell time yet…enjoy your ability to put them to bed early!)  Now that they are older…I sometimes go to bed before they do!

Now…don’t get me wrong…I love my kids to pieces…and I love spending time with them.  And I like spending time with other people.  But as an introvert I need some time to myself in order to recharge my personal batteries or else I feel like I’m going to lose my mind!

I have struggled with this as my children have grown and I don’t have as much alone time,  I have often played the martyr and put my childrens’ wants above my own needs.  I have let my personal reserves get too low…and it absolutely affects my ability to be a happy, healthy mom!

As my girls have grown…I realized I may not be setting a good example for them.  I want them to be happy, confident, and successful adults, wives, and mothers…but am I showing them how?  I have a wonderful mother…but she was not good at prioritizing herself…and I realized that I wanted to set a better example for my own daughters.

Like many mothers I need to do a better job of taking care of my mental health so I can better care for my family and my other commitments.

I have learned that I need to be intentional about taking care of myself… because…I know you’ve heard it before…I’m a better mom and wife when I do!

Here’s the thing…I think we sometimes make it too complicated!  It doesn’t have to be big and elaborate!  The things you do every day matter more than what you do once in a while!

The thing is I tend to get lazy and stop doing some of the things I know I should…and then I get out of whack and feel like I’m losing my marbles!

How Do I Get “Me Time” as a Busy Mom?

There are a few things I’ve created in my routines to help me rejuvenate my mind, body, and soul…so I can be a better mom and wife!  Sign up for my newsletter so you can get a link to the printable to help you prioritize your own simple self care.

  1. Exercise…I’m not talking craziness!  A 20 minute walk every day can do amazing things for your mood!
  2. Shower…I’m lucky now that my kids are a little older I can actually lock my bedroom door for awhile…although they usually end up hollering at me through the door before I get out!
  3. Sleep…yep…I’m one of those people that needs my sleep to be a happy mom!
  4. Scripture Study…some time to meditate, ponder and seek the guidance of the Spirit does wonders for my mothering!  I couldn’t do this without Him.
  5. Time to read or do something I enjoy…everyone…even busy moms need some time to relax or be creative!  It might not be a long time…but make it consistent!

If I can get these things in every day and spend some time building good relationships with my family …I can count my day as a success!  It also doesn’t hurt if I get my Homemaking Routine done!
